When you browse the App Store, each screen is composed of many app listings. Each listing promotes a specific app and displays the app's title, its graphic icon /logo, the price, the app's developer, the average star-based rating, how many ratings the app has received , and a sample screen shot.

Before You Buy: Accessing the App's Description Page

As you are looking at an app's listing or preview in the App Store , you can tap on its title icon to view a detailed description of the app. On the iPhone, you will see the App Store screen is replaced with a detailed description. When you do this on the iPad, a new app description window is displayed over the App Store screen.

The app description screen displays the app's title, its graphic icon, the price, the app's developer, the average star-based rating, and the number of ratings it's received.

Then you see three command tabs, labeled Details, Reviews, and Related. Displayed below the Details, Reviews and Related tab are samples of screen shot from the app.

Tap the Details Tab

What's below the sample screen shot of the app is the detailed description of the app that is written by its developer. This description serves as a sales tool that's designed to sell the app.

Below the description is information about the added new features of the app in the most recent version. Look for the What's New heading. Displayed beneath the What's New heading is the Supports heading. Below the Information section, is the In-App Purchase option, the Version History option, the Developer Infro link.

Tap the Review Tab

As you tap on the Review Tab, the App Store Ratings chart is displayed. It shows how many ratings the app has received, its average rating, and the total number of ratings. A top rating is five stars.

Tap the Related Tab

There are listings for apps that are similar in functionality to the app you are looking at.
